Romania
Romania is situated in the south-eastern part of Central Europe and shares borders with Hungary to the northwest, Serbia to the southwest, Bulgaria to the south, the Black Sea to the southeast, Ukraine to the east and to the north and the Republic of Moldova to the east. Roughly the size of Oregon, Romania is the second largest country in the area, after Poland.
Romania’s territory features splendid mountains, beautiful rolling hills, fertile plains and numerous rivers and lakes. The Carpathian Mountains traverse the centre of the country bordered on both sides by foothills and finally the great plains of the outer rim. Forests cover over one quarter of the country and the fauna is one of the richest in Europe including bears, deer, lynx, chamois and wolves. The legendary Danube River ends its eight-country journey at the Black Sea, after forming one of the largest and most biodiverse wetlands in the world, the Danube Delta.
About a third of the country consists of the Carpathian Mountains (also known as the Transylvanian Alps). Another third is hills and plateaus, rich with orchards and vineyards. The final third is a fertile plain, largely devoted to agriculture.

Romania has a temperate climate, similar to the north-eastern United States, with four distinct seasons.
Spring is pleasant with cool mornings and nights and warm days.
Summer is quite warm, with extended sunny days. The hottest areas in summer are the lowlands in southern and eastern Romania where 100 F is often reached in July and August. Temperatures are always cooler in the mountains.
Autumn is dry and cool, with fields and trees producing colourful foliage, much like New England.
Winters can be cold, especially in the mountains. While not the rule, abundant snowfalls may occur throughout the country, from December to mid-March.

Bucharest:- Bucharest is not only the capital of Romania, but it is also the largest city in the country. The city in the south-eastern part of the nation along the Dâmbovița River banks.
Braşov:- The city of Braşov is the eighth largest in the nation and is home to almost a quarter of a million people. It is also considered to be part of the famous Transylvania region of Romania that has inspired countless legends over the centuries. Braşov is also home to the annual Golden Stag International Music Festival.
Cluj-Napoca:- Situated in the Transylvanian province of Romania, the city of Cluj-Napoca has grown to become the second largest city in the nation.The picturesque landscapes that surround the city are one of the biggest attractors of the region which includes the Transylvanian Plain, Someş Plateau as well as the Apuseni Mountains.
Timişoara:- In the western part of the country,the city of Timişoara situated along the southernmost edge of the Panonia Plain. Centuries ago, the city was built along the banks of the Timiş River, but after a dam was constructed on the river during the 18th century, the river is now nothing more than a small canal that runs through the city.
Sibiu:- The city of Sibiu can be found along both banks of the Cibin River in the Transylvanian province of Romania.Situated in what is known as the Cibin Depression, there are a number of mountains which surround the city including the Lotrului, Cibin and Făgăraş Mountains. The area is also a popular skiing destination in the country.
Sinaia:- The resort town of Sinaia is a popular tourist destination in Romania. The town itself was built around the ancient Sinaia Monastery. The Peleş Castle which was built by King Carol I centuries ago. There is hiking, biking and even skiing in the area. While home to many important landmarks, Sinaia is mostly known for its winter sports which have attracted countless travellers.
Constanţa:- The oldest city in the Romania is that of Constanţa which was initially founded back in the 6th century B.C. Situated along the shores of the Black Sea, the city has grown into one of the largest ports towns in the nation over the millennia. It is also considered to be one of the largest ports in the European Union.
Sighişoara:- The city of Sighişoara in the historic Transylvania region of Romania. Thanks to the very well preserved town centre along with its fortified walls, the city has become an important tourist destination in the country over the years. The 13th century Clock Tower which stands over the city is 64 meters tall and houses the local history museum.
Bran Castle:- Situated just outside of the city of Braşov is where you will find one of the world’s most infamous fortresses, Bran Castle. It is here where the legend of Dracula began. Known all over the world as Dracula’s Castle, the historical building is now a museum which has had millions of visitors over the decades since the release of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Mamaia:- The resort town of Mamaia can be found along the shores of the Black Sea. Today it is considered to be one of the most popular summer destinations in the country. There are countless hotels as well as private clubs that can be found throughout the town; many of which have distinguished four and five-star rankings.
Iaşi:- The city of Iaşi is one of the largest in the country. It is a city of historical importance to Romania and is home to a number of buildings that date back to the 16th century. The second largest university in the country can be found in the city along with another twelve small universities.
Oradea:- The city of Oradea nestled snuggly in the valley that separates the Apuseni Mountains and the Crisana Plain. It is here where the Crișul Repede River flows through the country. The picturesque views along the river have made the area one of the more popular destinations in Romania.
Predeal:- The resort town of Predeal can be found in the middle of the Prahova Valley which is situated more than 1,000 meters above sea level. It is an important holiday destination in the country with people making their way to Predeal for skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer months. There are many different species of plants and animals that can be found in the area that surrounds the town.
Poiana Braşov:- One of the most popular skiing resort towns in Romania is that of Poiana Braşov. Situated at 1,200 meters above sea level, the town is a perfect starting point with access to many of the nation’s tallest mountain peaks. The tallest summit in the area is that of Mount Bucegi which rises to 2,505 meters above the sea.
Târgu Mureş:- The city of Târgu Mureş is situated along the banks of the Mureş River. The 14th century fortified church which encompasses the historical town centre of Târgu Mureş has attracted a number of visitors over the years. There are also a number of excellent sites of historical importance that can also be found throughout the city.
Eforie:- The seaside resort town of Eforie situated along the coasts of the Black Sea. The town itself was first founded back on 1899 by Ion Movilă when he created the first spa in the area. Since those days, the town has flourished and continues to be one of the more popular destinations in the country.
Arad:- The city of Arad can be found nestled along the banks of the Mureş River. The city is the seat of the Romanian Orthodox Church and features a seminary university. There is also a training school for teachers that can be found in Arad. The city is an important industrial centre in the nation and is a common stopping point for those visiting Romania.
Buşteni:- The small town of Buşteni can be found in the foothills of the Bucegi Mountains. Situated in the Prahova Valley the town is an important staging point for those who are making their way to the countless slopes along the 2,505 meter tall Bucegi Mountains. There are a number of fine resorts and hotels that can be found within the town.
Suceava:- The city of Suceava located in the northeastern part of the country. The city and the area that surrounds it have played an important role in the history of Romania and as such, there are countless historical sites that can be found throughout the area. Some of the oldest buildings in Suceava date back to the 14th century.
Băile Herculane:- Located in the Cerna River Valley, the town of Băile Herculane is a popular spa destination in Romania. Croatia.
Croatia is an Eastern European country with long coastlines on the Adriatic Sea, encompassing more than a thousand islands, crossed by the Dinaric Alps and dotted with castles. Its inland capital, Zagreb, is distinguished by its medieval Gornji Grad (Upper Town) and diverse museums. Dubrovnik:- Nicknamed the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” the old city of Dubrovnik is one of the prominent places to visit in the Mediterranean. Located at the southern tip of Croatia off the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik was established in the 7th century on maritime trade. With orange rooftop houses sitting in contrast to the blue sky, Dubrovnik presents many sightseeing treasures. The historic district, the Old Town, is stuffed with many historic features such as the old, defensive walls, cobblestone streets, magnificent palaces and stunning churches. Just outside the Old Town are popular beaches like Banje and Lapad, while the nearby island of Lokrum offers even more beaches.
Hvar:- The most popular places to visit in Croatia and in the Adriatic Sea, Hvar is a beautiful Croatian island off the Dalmatian Coast, favoured for its landscapes of spectacular beaches, lavender fields and lush vineyards. Hvar’s main city, Hvar Town, is an attractive city, featuring 13th century walls, marble stone streets, Gothic palaces, stunning churches and an imposing old fortress. The town square is one of Croatia’s largest and most beautiful, surrounded by many historic building like the 17th century Arsenal and the Cathedral of St. Stephen. Plitvice National Park:- One of the most beautiful natural wonders in Croatia and all of Europe, the Plitvice National Park consists of several breathtaking lakes, waterfalls and lush forest. Formed by natural travertine dams, the lakes range in distinct colors from turquoise to blue, green and gray. Split:- Nicknamed the “Mediterranean Flower,” Croatia’s second-largest city, Split, is located on a peninsula off the Dalmatian Coast. The city’s main attraction is its historic core of beautiful Gothic and Renaissance architecture of which the Diocletian’s Palace is the crown jewel. Built between 298 and 305 AD, this Roman Emperor palace complex is more like a small city itself with a maze of marble walkways and buildings containing shops, cafes and bars. Outside the historic centre, tourists will find plenty to see and do including strolling along the seaside promenade, shopping at the lively Green Market and swimming at Bacvice beach.
Rovinj:- Located on Croatia’s Istrian peninsula in the Adriatic Sea, Rovinj is an archipelago of 20 islands with its Old Town set on a small peninsula. Narrow streets of cobblestone, stairways, arches and other interesting architecture make the Old Town a sightseeing adventure. Some of the Old Town’s historic gems include seven medieval city gates, the 12th century town clock and St. Euphemia’s Basilica, an imposing baroque church packed with many stunning art works. Also worth seeing are the scenic harbour, Carrera Street with its many shops and art galleries, and Grisia Street, which is lined with artists and souvenir vendors.
Zadar:- three thousand-year old city situated on a beautiful coastline rich in history is sure to draw tourists. Such a city is Zadar, located on Croatia’s northern Dalmatian Coast. Zadar could be called the ideal tourist getaway because it offers plenty to see and do without all the crowds of other popular destinations in Croatia. At the heart of the city is its Old Town which offers fantastic sightseeing attractions including Roman ruins, medieval architecture and numerous old churches. Zagreb:- The capital and largest city of Croatia, Zagreb is a vibrant metropolis packed with both historic and modern attractions. Located in northwestern Croatia, the city dates back to the 2nd century AD when a diocese was first established by Hungarian King Ladislaus. Today, Zargreb is a sprawling cosmopolitan city and the heart of Croatian culture, academics and government. The city is divided into an Upper and Lower Town, with Upper Town being the historic core where tourists can walk down cobblestone streets and visit old, medieval churches and towers.
Krka National Park:- Located in Central Dalmatia of Croatia, the Krka National Park is a protected area of spectacular natural scenery, wildlife and historic sites. Situated along the Krka River within Sibinik-Knin County, the national park is best known for its numerous gushing waterfalls and natural pools of clear, blue-green waters. Georgia
Georgia is located on the crossroad of Europe and Asia. It lays at the eastern end of the Black Sea, with Turkey and Armenia to the south, Azerbaijan to the east, and Russia to the north, over the Caucasus Mountains. The capital and largest city is Tbilisi.
Climate of the country is extremely diverse, considering its small size. The Greater Caucasus Mountain Range influencing Georgia’s climate, it protects the country from cold air masses from North.
The Lesser Caucasus Mountains partially protect the region from the influence of dry and hot air masses from South as well. An average temperature in summer ranges from 32 °C to 35 °C, and in winter – from 1.5 °C to 3 °C.

Tsminda Sameba Cathedral:- Although it looks ancient, the Sameba Cathedral in Tbilisi is a 21st century addition to the old city of Tbilisi. Construction of the Eastern Orthodox Cathedral started in 1995 and was completed in 2004. Consisting of a range of different architectural styles, the traditional look of the church was carefully chosen out of a contest of more than one hundred designs. The interior is impressive and has nine chapels with more than half of these located underground!
Narikala Fortress:- One of Tbilisi’s important ancient sites is the Narikala Fortress. Situated on a hill overlooking the city and Mtkvari River, the fortress was constructed in the 4th century to protect the city from attack. Although some parts were demolished by an earthquake in 1827, walls and battlements from the 16th and 17th centuries still remain lending stunning views of the city.
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral:- One of the architecturally significant buildings in Georgia, this medieval stone cathedral is located in Mtskheta, an historic town near Tbilisi. The present 11th century cathedral was rebuilt from its original 4th century version, and its inner walls contain fragments of icons and frescoes, as well as decorated stonework. During its long history Svetitskhoveli Cathedral has come under attack from Persians, Arabs and Russians, as well as earthquakes. Not only is it an important place of Christian worship, the cathedral is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Vardzia:- Pack a picnic and head into the Georgian mountains to visit Vardzia. This is a 12th century monastery, or cave city, with a labyrinth of tunnels and rooms that extend for kilometres into Erusheli Mountain. The monastery is accessed by a 30 minute steep climb and there is a small entrance fee to pay the monks who manage it. Originally consisting of over six thousand rooms and 13 storeys, today there are still 300 remaining rooms and halls!
Batumi Boulevard:- Batumi is a coastal city on the Black Sea known for its good weather, contemporary architecture and beaches. The Boulevard is a park that runs along the seashore with formal lawns, gardens and palm trees. It is the focal point of the city’s night life during summer and a popular place for a scenic walk, cycle or to pick up some souvenirs.
Uplistsicke:- This cave fortress near Gori should be on your must-visit list for its fascinating ancient ruins. The name means ‘the lord’s fortress’ and the town was literally hewn out of the rock in the 6th century BC. It was an important trading centre on the Silk Road with around 5,000 people living there. The ‘Tamaris Darbasi’, a rock hall with gigantic stone pillars, is the largest building archaeologists have discovered but you’ll also be able to see a bakery, a prison, a pharmacy and designated spots where pagan sacrifices took place.
Aerial Tramway in Tbilisi:- A new and easier way of getting from A to B opened in Tbilisi in 2012. The steep hike up through the Old Town has now been replaced with an aerial tramway which whisks you from Rike Park up to Narikala Fortress in two minutes. From here you can also visit the Botanical Gardens and Kartlis Deda. The tramway makes the journey easier and quicker but also offers great views of the Mtkvari River and the Old Town.
Rustaveli Avenue:- There’s one place to be in Tbilisi its Rustaveli Avenue. Named after Shota Rustaveli, a 12th century Georgian poet, the street is a cultural hub of tourist attractions. The National Gallery, National Museum, Opera and Ballet State Theatre, Kashveti Church and Parliament are all located along here. It’s also a Rustaveli Avenue focus for entertainment venues, bars, restaurants and souvenir shops.
Mount Kazbek:- Part of Georgia’s natural charm is its beautiful mountainous scenery. Located in the extreme north of the country near the Georgia/Russia border are the Caucasus Mountains. Mount Kazbek is part of the range and its name means ‘mountain of ice’. The mountain is popular with trekkers and climbers for being one of the highest in the region and for its magnificent summit views.
Lake Ritsa:- Beautiful Lake Ritsa, surrounded by mountains and with its green-blue waters full of trout, is a popular visitor attraction in Abkhazia, north Georgia. The Crater Lake is part of the Ritsa Nature Reserve and at 116 metres in depth, one of the deepest in Georgia. The best time to visit is the summers which never get too hot, the lake shores are perfect for a picnic, a stroll and there are boat tours available too.

Ajara region, traditionally famous for sea, sun, nightlife and boat-like khachapuri, now also boasts with a new snow resort, Goderdzi. Well, khachapuri is always delicious, dancing in trendy places or trying your luck in casino is possible anytime, but skiing so close to the coast is possible only in the wintertime.

Skiing & Snowboarding
BAKURIANI
Located at an altitude of 1,700 m. in the Borjomi region of Georgia, Bakuriani is nestled in the shadows of the breath-taking Caucasus Mountains, which is only a three-hour drive from Tbilisi. Bakuriani perched high on a sunny plateau in the centre of Caucasus Mountains, promises to deliver a unique charm and essential skiing experience for both professionals and amateurs as well.
Home to dozens of alpine slopes and cross-country trails, Bakuriani offers some of the most spectacular skiing and snowboarding in Europe. Originally developed as an Olympic training facility, unsurprisingly, Bakuriani is Georgia’s most popular and prominent winter sports and recreation destination. Enjoy the downhill ski runs, cross-country trails, horseback tours, sledding or simply take long walks through beautiful snowy forests.
Kokhtagora
Kokhtagora is located at an altitude of 2,155 m. and is served by a two-seat chair lift and two drag lifts- the so called Bugels. Red and black runs are located here and descend from the top of the peak down to the mid-level cable car, where blue runs and beginners nursery slopes can be found.
Kokhta 2 (Tatra)
The mountain of Kokhta 2 (2,255 meters high) is known in Bakuriani as Tatra. The red and blue pistes here run for 1.8 km.
25 meter
Twenty-five is an area of easy skiing located on the Circular, near the old 25-meter ski-jump which gives the area its name. Here beginners and children can learn to ski in a safe and pleasant environment, surrounded by the mighty Caucasus Mountains. You can also toboggan and sledge here, or take a horse drawn sleigh-ride through the ancient forests.
Didveli
Didveli, at one of Europe’s highest mountains, Mount Sakvelo, holds one on the most picturesque views. From here you can catch a gondola to the slopes of Mount Sakvelo, and ski down on a range of blue and red routes. The longest piste here stretches to around 4 km. Advanced skiers can continue further up the mountain by catching a chairlift at the top of the gondola to almost the very top of Mt Sakvelo itself. Here, you can enjoy stretching your ski-legs on very steep and difficult red and black runs.
GUDAURI
Located in the very heart of the Caucasus Mountains, Gudauri is surrounded by some of the Europe’s most dramatic peaks. While Gudauri is unrivaled in the diversity and challenges of its terrain, it is a top destination to unravel your skiing hidden talents. Gudauri is a resort for all seasons. Only a short drive from the Capital city of Tbilisi – and even a shorter helicopter flight will eventually let you discover the magic of Georgian picturesque mountains. Gudauri is Georgia’s year-round playground. Skiing

Rescue and First Aid
All of Gudauri’s ski areas are patrolled by experienced ski rescue and first-aid teams. Emergency helicopter evacuation to Tbilisi is also available.
MESTIA
Mestia, the main regional centre of Zemo Svaneti, is situated 456 km from Georgia’s capital city, Tbilisi and is 1.500 metres above sea level.
